Notes
The antediluvian giants are often referred to in Hebrew as the Nephilim.
In contrast post-diluvian giants are typically referred to as the Rephaim, a word which can also refer to the dead. It is believed that the differing meanings of this word resulted from a merging of similar words from Canaanite and Amorite dialects. The Canaanite word, referring to the spirits of deceased royal ancestors, and the Amorite word being used to refer to legendary past inhabitants of the land.
