There is a strong personality-correlate for Utah culture. Utah is a curious place, because, being at high altitude, it naturally generates a lot of Rebel personality types and is also a hotbed of depression and anxiety (much like Colorado). However, being the home of the headquarters of a major religion, Upholder personality types are attracted to the region for religious purposes. Normally, these two groups can't stand each other. The result is a region divided by personality conflict. One of the results of this conflict is that the Church has become a proxy for the upholder side of the conflict and has become dominated by upholder personality types who are particularly wary of non-upholder personalities. Hence, non-upholders, particularly questioners and rebels often get pushed out, and actually do become enemies of the Church. This creates a very lopsided culture that is unsympathetic to non-upholder personalities because they are perceived as being too similar to the enemies of the Church.
