A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.
And Elam bare the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

Notes

Elam originated in a small region of south-western Iran. In Isaiah's day, they had expanded to control most of what is now modern Iran, Parts of Turkey, Azerbaijan, parts of Turkmenistan and much of Afghanistan. Historically, Tehran was a suburb of the classical (pre-imperial) Median city of Rhages.
