Ruth's first husband died. Presumably, from a legalistic standpoint, her children would be considered to properly be the chuildren of her first husband, even if they were biologically the children of Boaz. It is not clear if her first husband was Mahlon or Chilion (these are the two sons of Naomi mentioned in Ruth 1).
