Notes
An interesting feature of this book is that it has a 3-part structure. Here's the breakdown of how I see this:
- Prelude
- Experience with God
- 3 Trials
- Both remark that the individual who does the trying (Satan/Laban) is nothing compared to God.
- Trials Overcome
- Desire to gain knowledge from God
- Revelation from God
- Tree of Life
- More straightforward narrative
- Good struggles against evil
- Good must build a boat to overcome many waters
I perceive this as being reflective, in part, of the Book of Moses, but also, there is an apparent temple structure here. It is hard to separate all these ideas. The parts as I laid out above, are more reflective of the structure of Moses, but I think it would be valid to lay out different boundaries that reflect better the temple structure, and they would both be valid.
